About SBCHC

Spring Branch Community Health Center is a private, non-profit community health center providing quality and affordable healthcare services to the underserved community of Spring Branch. Our mission is to increase the number of healthy families in our community by providing high quality, comprehensive healthcare services. The staff is led by CEO Marlen J. Trujillo and CMO Dr. Varadarajan.

Main Clinic

History of SBCHC

In 2003 a group of community leaders decided to take action to help reduce healthcare disparities by creating a neighborhood-based health center. With the financial support of neighborhood churches and private donations the clinic opened its doors in May 2004 offering services three days a week. In 2005 the community clinic was designated a Federally Qualified Health Center.

Marlen J. Trujillo, MBA, Chief Executive Officer
Prior to being the CEO, Trujillo was the CFO at the health center and also participated in the founding project of this organization as a neighborhood resident. Trujillo grew up in this community and understands the medical needs of this population. She graduated from Northbrook High School, obtained her BBA in Finance and Marketing from the University of Houston and MBA from Our Lady of the Lake University.

Shruti Varadarajan, M.D. Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Shruti Varadarajan joined Spring Branch Community health center as Medical Director in December of 2009. Dr. Varadarajan received her Medical Degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and completed her residency training in Family Medicine at the Memorial Family Residency program in Houston. In college her major was Biology/Anthropology with a focus in cultural and medical anthropology. She learned then that people experience illness differently based on their culture and background. One of her goals as a physician is to help the uninsured/underinsured gain access to quality health care in a culturally sensitive manner. She is devoted to providing a medical home for the patients of the Spring Branch area. Dr. Varadarajan is a member of the American Board of Family Medicine as well as a member of the Harris County Medical Society.
