GE Foundation Grants SBCHC - $250,000 HOUSTON, TEXAS- April 27, 2010- The GE Foundation- the philanthropic organization of GE and the GE Corporate Diversity Council announced the award of $1.25 million in total to five Houston community health centers towards the goal of increasing access to primary care for uninsured and underserved populations across the city. Spring Branch Community Health Center will receive $250,000, in two installments over two years. The grant funds will be used by the health center to increase access to primary care. Specifically, the grant will be used by SBCHC for a diabetes program and a weight management program. While the Spring Branch Community Health Center serves diabetic patients now, the grant will allow the clinic to implement programs with actual performance measures. Houston is the third city to receive grants through the GE Foundation’s Developing Health Initiative after New York and Milwaukee. The GE Foundation awards grants to selected health centers based on need, community impact, leadership and willingness to partner with GE volunteers, transparency and accountability. “Houston is the fourth largest metropolitan area in the country. By partnering with these clinics to increase access to primary care we can help more people get the care they need when they need it,” said Mike Barber, VP, GE healthymagination. This contribution from GE will allow us to continue providing quality affordable primary care services to the Spring Branch Community.
